This dhaka day tour is like killing two birds at a single shot. If you want to have a quick glance of how Zamindar was and also want to let you or your kids remember about the Independence of Bangladesh, this day tour is more than perfect for you. Lets have a glance of the history of these places.
Baliati Zamindar Bari (Bengali: বালিয়াটি জমিদার বাড়ি) is located at the village of Baliati, in Saturia Upazila in Manikganj District. It is the palace of the Zamindars, the Baliati Zamindari who ruled over a large area. There are seven palaces. The palace area occupies around 5.88 acres (23,800 m2) of land, enclosed within a moat and a perimeter wall. There are about 200 rooms inside the premises. At the back of the Palace is a pond.
The founder of the Baliati Zaminder was one Govinda Ram Shaha, who was a big salt merchant in the middle of the 18th Century. He left four sons: Dadhi Ram, Ananda Ram, Pandit Ram and Golap Ram. They built these buildings in the palace complex. The famous Jagannath College in Dhaka was founder and endowed by a member of Baliati family, Babu Kishori Lal Roy Chowdhury. The complex contains more than 200 rooms of various shapes and dimensions. To the north, there is a tan with regular masonry landings. The central block of upper story has a decorative hall called Rong Mohal which is now used as museum.
National Martyrs’ Memorial is the national monument of Bangladesh, set up in the memory of the valour and the sacrifice of all those who gave their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. The monument rises from a verdant land, somewhat reminiscent of the ruinous mound of the ancient city of Pundranagarain Mahasthan, Bogra. The first phase of the project was initiated in 1972, when the government acquired nearly 110 acres. The main complex required 84 acres of land. With a heavyweight jury, including architect Muzharul Islam, a national design competition for the monument took place in 1978. (The previous attempt didn’t yield any satisfactory results.) A 26-year-old architect, Syed Mainul Hossain (1952-2014), won the competition from a pool of 57 participants.
